Best Cordless Hedge Trimmer

There are several technologies that have showed up on the market that, although greatly simplify our lives, have not been adopted by most people. The cordless hedge trimmer falls more or less in that category, even though its entry level products are almost as inexpensive as the classical garden scissors, so we are going to focus in our search for the best cordless hedge trimmer on also pointing out just how useful one can be. We do have several excellent examples that are great if you are a professional garden decorator, and we are going to show how the most important features of those products are actually reflected in the entry level products. So, even though we always encourage you to scroll down past the list where we detail the most important features of each product to find our in depth reviews, here we actually ask you to do so, especially if you are a private hedge owner and are not sure about owning a hedge trimmer, we actually ask that you do read the reviews because in them you will find the best reasons why we believe the old school hedge scissors are completely useless and outdated.

We are going to start with what we think of as the best choice for both private and professional users, the Black and Decker LHT2220 22-Inch 20-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Hedge Trimmer. It makes sense both from a financial point of view and also from a need of high quality performance. The battery is the first thing we need to consider because they have moved from the traditional NiCad batteries to the Lithium Ion technology that we actually use in our modern smartphones as well. So you have a much longer battery life and you do not need to be very careful with the maintenance of the battery. With this new type of battery you can actually go through 3000 square feet of hedge on a single charge, and this is not even the best or most expensive product on the market. The cutting blade is 22 inches long so it is more than enough for most hedges but it is also short enough that you can easily carry it with you at any job site you might have. The cutting capability of the blades is of branches up to ¾ inches thick, and there are several dampening technologies set in place that prevent a lot of the vibration generated through the cutting process.

There are several cordless hedge trimmers that are actually only worth the money if you are a professional trimmer, or in the off chance that you have several miles of hedges that you trim yourself. The Black & Decker LHT2436 24-Inch 40-Volt Cordless Hedge Trimmer gives you everything that the LHT2220 that we already looked at does, but doubles almost every relevant feature except for the price. The battery is a 40 volt Lithium Ion giant that can help you get through 6000 square feet of hedge, and, again, being Lithium Ion you do not have to worry about the need to let the battery drain out completely before you charge it again. The blade on the Black & Decker LHT2436 Cordless Hedge Trimmer also is impressive in that it has the longest blade on the market at 24 inches. The handle system and everything that leads up to it is perfectly designed to absorb all or most of the vibrations.

The biggest problem we have with products such as the cordless hedge trimmer is that there are manufacturers, in this case Black & Decker, that have brought forth a range of excellent quality products at very competitive prices, so it is very difficult to find great alternatives. So, at least when it comes to a high end, professional cordless hedge trimmer we need to look at an alternative to the Black & Decker offer, the GreenWorks 22262 G-MAX 40V Li-Ion 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmer. It too has a very competitive price, and a huge 40 V Lithium Ion battery. The blade itself is 24 inches long, and the anti vibration technology works quite impressively. However, there are several reasons why this is our third choice, and the most important one is the fact that it only goes through 2/3 inches thick branches. The other thing is the fact that the battery does not seem to last quite as long as on the Black & Decker trimmer, although they are both of the same approximate power.

Although we believe that the LTH2220 is the best cordless hedge trimmer for both private and professional users, there is a more affordable alternative for the private user that is not yet convinced of the usefulness of this technology. The Black & Decker NHT2218 18-Volt Cordless Hedge Trimmer has a 22 inch blade and the same vibration dampening technologies that you find even in the high end Black & Decker LHT2436. So it is a perfectly comfortable trimmer to be used even if you have no experience and not a lot of physical strength. The big difference is the fact that here you have an 18v NiCad battery, that can only go through 2500 square feet of hedges, and that you need to be more careful in the way you use it. Still, for a small garden owner it makes more sense than the other products we have looked at so far.

5. Black & Decker TR117 3.2-Amp Hedge Trimmer

Finally we need to take a look at what we believe is the ultimate hedge trimmer scissors replacement, the Black & Decker TR117 3.2-Amp Hedge Trimmer. It is a much smaller trimmer than anything we have looked at so far, with just a 17 inches blade and a 3.2 amp battery. The vibration absorption technology is still very much in place, so it is a very comfortable trimmer to work with. The battery is much smaller, making the whole lot lighter and even easier to use, and yet it holds enough power to easily go through a regular sized garden hedge. But the best thing is the fact that the price point is actually very close to that of a hedge trimmer scissors on the market.
